Well, this weekend has been much better than the last.
Yesterday, Tammy and I went to a big computer show here in Denver (after our usual Saturday-morning trip to the gym). Well, it wasn't a really big computer show, and it's more of a big sale, but it was still fun. Tammy had gotten a free computer from work, but it came sans CD Rom drive, so we picked one up there for nineteen bucks. I picked up a bunch of books for cheap, and we were also able to score an 80-gig hard drive for Tammy, who's feeling crowded by her 40-gig. We're hoping to get her on the 80-gig and put the 40-gig in the new machine, but we're having a little trouble getting her migrated, because her machine didn't come with a Windows XP disc, but instead has some funky other thing. It's pretty vexing.
We also bought me a CD Read/Write drive for my machine. It came with one, but it's never really worked well - it's very noisy, and it would lock up if you tries to use it to write two discs in a row. I figured the $60 for the drive was worth not having to take the machine back to Best Buy and wait for them to figure out the problem.
We also got a new printer, because the ones we have now are just too much trouble to get them to work. I am *never* buying a Lexmark printer again.
Getting home, Tammy and I quickly realized we had no idea what we needed to do with all this hardware, so I got in touch with JM, a good friend of mine from waaay back. He came over and showed us what to do, and we treated him to an excellent Italian dinner at the Macaroni Grill in return. Afterwards, we went by Soundtrack and bought a nice Pioneer DVD player to replace the one that was taken last weekend.
Today was good too. Tammy had to go to work, so I went out and picked up a new rechargeable battery for the wireless phone from Best Buy. On the way back I stopped at the Old Friends Bookstore, which a friend of mine had suggested as a possible site for my campaign. (I was going to have it at home, but one of my players is allergic to cats.) The place is very nice, with handmade wooden bookshelves, and it turns out that the current owner bought it eight months ago. He's very into roleplaying, Lovecraft, beer signs, anime, and all the things I think are right and good with the world, so we got along just great. And so the game's going to be there.
It's a good weekend, and tomorrow we close on the new mortgage. Life is good.
