So, due to some shakeups in my ongoing Tuesday night group, someone else had to take the reigns as DM. Jason had been running for a while, but wanted to take a break, and neither Amy or Clint wanted to run, so (as I somewhat expected) it has passed on to me to figure out a game to run.

The only real restriction was that Jason wanted to play D&D - he hadn't played a character since he'd started his campaign with us, and although we had taken a break earlier, it'd been Cthulhu D20 and hadn't scratched his itch.

So, D&D was wanted. My desire was to run something out of a book - I'm already running a D&D campaign, re-doing the 'Against the Giants' campaign for another group, and I don't want to burn out by trying to do too much. So after looking into some options, we all decided on the Shackled City mega-module.

It's a nice looking book - I've started looking through a friend's copy for preparation while my copy wends it's way from ebay. It's got a strong-sounding plotline set up, with a number of differing-power bad-guys, a good city setting with reasons to have close by dungeons, social conflict, and a good reason why any existing adventurers haven't started cleaning up the problems at hand.

I'm looking forward to it.

(LAUGH)

I've been playing in a Shackled City game for about 2 months now. Heh. It's been a lot of fun.

One thing that's helped 'freshen' my interest in D&D is that we are using gestalt classes; I've found gestalt a real blast.

Hm. I'm not using gestalt classes, but I am allowing the various extra classes in the various expansion books for 3.5. This has worked out fairly well - no one wanted to play the 'wizard', but one player is at least willing to try the 'warlock' class, which is different enough in that you don't need to memorize spells. No one's willing to play a cleric, but my wife wants to play a druid, so we're using the optional ability from the PHB2 that gives her a healing ability. It helps work things out.

I think if we were down to just three players or so, I might go with gestalt.

Good luck with your new campaign, John! It sounds like a lot of fun...I'm jealous. :)
