One of my favorite SF authors is an older one named H. Beam Piper, who wrote a dozen or two novels and then unfortantely took his own life.
Apparently, somehow his works weren't copyrighted in the US, which surprised me when I learned that a short bit ago. But that means that Project Gutenberg can have a list of his works. So, go and have a look. If you haven't read anything by him before, I'd recommend Little Fuzzy .
