I'm planning to go to the huge Gen Con game convention tomorrow, and so all this week I've been spending my time daydreaming about the trip itself. I went once in the past, back in 1988, and it was pretty big then - I'm expecting it to be even bigger now.
Today I've got a lot of work to do when I go home. I need to pack clothes and toiletries, games that I'm going to play, games that I'm going to auction off, and a few books to read on the trip or during dead times - although I expect to be able to buy a good bit of reading material there.
While I'm there, I've got some adventures to both run and play. I'm getting a free ticket to the show from Guardians of Order in exchange for me running a number of demos and a game for them. Although they gave me a demo script to follow, I don't have anything for the game, and have to write it myself. Right now I'm going with a twisted 'three wishes and you're doomed' plot - old and hoary, I'm sure, but hopefully I'll dress it up to be interesting. This gives the players some investigation to do (What's causing this strangeness?), four action scenes, and some flexibility. If I'm running out of time, I can reduce the severity of the third wish and move on to the end game. It's a bit of time coming up with the stats, though - I'm suspecting that GoO are getting the better part of this deal. Oh, well - chalk it up to experience and getting in good with the company. I'm hoping to get more writing jobs with them.
Just got back from an hour-and-a-half class here at work to learn how to use the new phones... I think maybe thirty minutes would have been enough. Time to get back to work.
