Bleeding Hell!

I read an article today about a new, 500+ acre fire that's burning near Estes Park.

Estes Park is this great little town in a valley in the Rocky Mountains, and it's the gateway to the Rocky Mountain National Park. One time when my wife-to-be was visiting me here in Colorado, we drove all the way up Rt 36 to Estes Park. It's really interesting to approach Estes Park, because you're driving at the base of all of these mountains, with a small river following you to the left. Across the river there were lots of really cute little hotels and bed and breakfasts that really fit in with the mountain setting.

Estes Park itself is nice, dominated by this huge lake in the middle of this valley. There's a tram car - a box that hangs from a wire - that takes you from the ground level to the top of a nearby mountain. Up there you can look about in all directions, enjoy the cooler weather, and get mugged by the chipmunks who are used to having strangers feed them.

And it's all in danger of burning down. And why? Not because of a thunderstorm. No, the local fire officials are pretty sure it's yet another asshole who doesn't understand what 'NO FIRES' mean. And don't tell me that this person didn't notice the sign - my wife and I managed to drive through a park in lower Colorado last weekend, and there were no-fire signs on *everything* that wasn't a feature of nature.

People of Colorado! The state is a tinderbox! Don't fucking light fires, okay?

Gaaah....
