Hi all.

Well, it's been a week. A busy enough week, as it happens.

A lot of my time is being spent elbow-deep in one C# learning project or another - I've got my C# and Webforms book from microsoft, the C# and webforms book from QUE (Amit Kulani, the author, is really good, btw) - those two are for passing the 70-315 Microsoft certification test in 4-5 weeks. Then there's just C# in 21 days, which I'm most of the way through. That's given me a good grounding in C# in general, which isn't something the other two books do. And then after that there's Managed Direct X, in which I've gone far enough to create a triangle flying in a circle (apparently the graphics equivalent of a 'Hello World' program). And finally there's Mud Game Programming, which is written for C++, and thus requires a certain amount of conversion into C#. But that will be mind-stretching when I get to it.

Additionally, on Tuesday I stopped by my friend Keith's used bookstore, and found it being taken apart. A few forces (including lack of customers) have finally converged, and he's throwing in the towel. I came back on Wednesday and spent the day helping him pack up books, remove shelves, and the like. Mostly packing books - he had a lot of really nice vintage books (two nice copies of the Arabian Nights in German) that needed to be packed carefully. Haven't heard from him since - hope he's allright. He was a bit shorttempered that day - but then, I would be too.

Friday I came across a couple good job leads and followed up on them. One lead to a very promising conversation with a recruiter on Sunday, and I'm looking forward to hearing more from that angle.

Saturday we went out and got Puzzle glue. The only acceptable jigsaw puzzle glue for my wife is the one that Milton Bradley makes, and the only place we've been able to find it is at Kmart. So, we went out and got some, as Tammy's working on this really difficult (but pretty) puzzle with art deco & gold all over it. It's going to be stunning when she finishes it. That evening we collected Trixii and went off to [livejournal.com profile] mishalak's house, where we enjoyed a rather cramped but joyful party. One person had brought a number of video files on CD, and played them on the computer. A nifty one involved a Rude Goldberg appratus made out of a Honda's parts - really fun to watch. We also watched the presentation of the MTV Movie award to Gollum. I tried mead for the first time, and found it was a pretty nice drink.

Yesterday wasn't as good a day. It started off well with the aforementioned call and a trip to go see Hellboy, which was enjoyed by all. (As Trixii noticed, there's a lot of blood and gore, but none of it's red - ie, demon blood & gore. Actually, there was a little blood on Hellboy himself, but it looked more purple on his skin, and was mostly an indicator of how well the fight was going than an actual wound.) But afterwards we went out to a bookstore, and something about seeing all these books I couldn't buy like I could before really depressed me about not having a job yet. Trixii and Tammy did a great job at trying to cheer me up, but sometimes when John's feeling down, you've just got to let him sit off to the side and work through it. The evening was subdued, although a high point was Tammy's lovely dinner. Mmm..

Anyway - new week, new start. Hopefully I'll get a job, or at least win money on this radio contest that's going on. *laugh*
