Well, the big thing this weekend was Mile High Con - the yearly Denver SF convention. As usual, I had a really good time. (And as usual, Tammy spent most of it in the gaming room.)

On Friday I fidgeted at work until my day was up, and then tore out to the convention. After a little confusion over my badge, I then collected my wife and hit the Dealer's room. I stopped by my favorite dealer there - Realms of Fantasy (every year he has a huge collection of small press books) and picked up the final three volumnes of The Selected Stories of Manly Wade Wellman (Night Shade Books), which I had been waiting for all year. I could have gotten them from the publisher, but this way I don't have to pay S&H. I also stopped by the other places, but my only other impulse buy was a used copy of His & Her Circumstances, vol 2, from Buy Me Anime. After that I went through the excellent Art Show and put down a few bids.

The next day was fun - packed up some card games (Magic, Shadowfist, Munchkin, Hack, and the .hack//enemy printable decks to experiment with. Armed with this, we dropped in on the convention. My two favorite panels would be the 'Murder in Fantasyland', which gave me a page of good notes for the RPG book, and 'DASFA Turkey Readoff', at which really good examples of bad published writing are read for the enjoyment of all. (Although I only saw half of that panel.) I also got to help run the 'Dive into Trivia' trivia game, in which the contestants get into the swimming pool, and we toss out easter eggs containing questions. If you can grab the egg, you get to answer the question.

We didn't stay too late that night - we'd both gotten tired, but by then I'd picked up a few more fun books at Who Else Books, and my wife had picked up a nice peasant-style embroidered blouse at Seams Like Magik. (It matches a skirt she has perfectly, she assures me. Luckily, they were running a sale.)

The next day dawned with an unsatisfactory breakfast at Mimi's Cafe, but brightened with a very fun Fanfiction panel. It was supposed to be "Flattery or Flat-out Wrong?" but no one on the panel seemed to think it was Flat-out wrong, so it was mostly just us discoursing on fun fanfic. We all had fun, though, and so did the audience, so that was good. I didn't really attend any other panels the rest of the day - I hung out in the con suite and checked out some old newsletters from the USS Pioneer Star Trek organization, who were hosting it at the time. It seems like a friendly group, and I was very encouraged that they support donating blood. (I'm already too busy to join another group, though.)

Finally, I went down and played some games - First Star Munchkin and then Hack, which was really fun. I picked up three items from the art show - a statue of a Unicorn, and two pictures from Meredith Dillman. I really was surprised I wasn't outbit on these pictures - mine was a cute manga-style picture of a faerie, and Tammy's was a nice profile of a woman's face with some decorative paint on it.

We had a good time, and didn't spend too much money for once. Once that was done, we came home, relaxed, played a little in my online Buffy game, and later on visited a Barnes & Nobels/Starbucks to play the .hack CCG - it seemed to go well enough, but our second play should go better, now that we know the rules. It reminds me pleasantly of Mythos, which I adore.

I hope your weekend was just as good.
