jcfialaWell, I'm sure we all know what this journal entry is about. New York city has been wounded, and the Pentagon has a segment cut out of it. And a fourth plane has crashed south-east of Pittsburgh.
It's been a crazy day. It's a day we probably won't understand for many months, if not years. I know that thousands have died in New York City, but it isn't *real* yet. It's just a number.
Earlier, I was watching CNN, and they showed footage of people running from the dust clouds and the collapsing buildings, showed people bone-white from dust except for where they were bleeding. It almost touched me then... I started to cry.
But it's going to take time.
I'm lucky, myself. I don't know anyone who lives in New York City. I don't know anyone who works at the Pentagon. None of my family was flying.
My mother was upset. She worked in the securities industry, and she met a good number of people who worked there while she was working on Alex Brown's Y2K project. People she knew and worked with are most likely dead.
It's world shattering.
However, I don't think it will be a permanent break. I believe we will all pull together, to give blood, to give help to the Red Cross, to work to heal this scar in our country.
And we'll find who did this. It's too big - there's no way they can hide where this came from. People had to buy tickets. They had to buy IDs. They had to teach these people how to fly the planes. They had to coordinate this. There will be common threads, and they'll lead back to someone.
I'm hoping that the someone is a small group, and that this small group can be found quickly. I worry that a lot of innocents may be smashed by our country in our quest to get revenge or justice for these acts. This is an emotional moment, and there's nothing wrong with it. But we have to try to make sure that despair and sorrow does not turn into indiscriminate rage.
But something does have to be done. We've been hit, and we've got to show whomever did this (and anyone else watching) that you do not *do* this sort of thing. Even if common humanity does not stop them, then the knowledge that we will not stop to find them and stop them will.
My heart goes out to everyone touched by this terrorist blow. God, or whomever you worship, be with you all.
