Well, it's been a pretty good weekend.

Friday night Tammy and I decided to use up some more of our Entertainment 2003 book, as I just bought the 2004 one and we'd hardly used '03. So we tried this place called R-something on south Gaylord street. I'd never been there before, but it turns out there's this block of restaurants and shops in the middle of a residential area that I'd never seen before. It's pretty cool, but parking was a definate pain. I parked about two blocks away after circling for 5 minutes, but Tammy had to circle for about 15 before she found a spot - but at least it was across the street. Food was good, though.

Saturday Tammy was feeling a bit under the weather. She'd been sick all week with some bug that's going around Denver - cough, runny nose, feeling bad, the usual September bug. We went by Weight Watchers, where Tammy found out she'd lost a bit over 4 pounds, and I'd gained about 4/10ths of a pound. We skipped out on the meeting and hit Rite Aid for medicine and then went by Jason's Deli for lunch, where I surprised myself by not having the appetite for a bowl of soup, which suggested that I was fighting something off myself.

So, when I got home I popped a megadose of Vitamin C and started working on preparing for my monthly Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil campaign. We only get together once a month, so I had let some of my preparations slack off until then, given how busy Tacticon and my Dad visiting had made me. I kept noshing on some Vitamin C drops while working, and Tammy soon took a nap to prepare for the game, as she's in it too. Luckily by the time it was to go, we were both feeling good.

I'd had a good idea while I was working and hit Kazaa to see if anyone had scanned in a copy of the module. They had, and I happily downloaded it to compliment my hardcopy version. This was a nice job, too - they had scanned in the maps at a bigger size, scanned in the map of Hommlet from dragon magazine, and added to that a few supplementary articles from Dragon as well. I happily printed out a handout and copies of the maps - my maps are a little crinkly from having accidentally been thrown out. Happily, we still have plenty of paper - some of my original work when the campaign started got printed on resume-style paper due to a lack of plain paper.

We were a little late showing up at the game due to picking up soda and pizza. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived that Jeanie had bought us a virtual buffet - Shrimp and fruit and veggies and other healthy snacks awaited us. I praised her thoughtfulness and had some shrimp. Mmmm...

The game went well - they investigated, found all sorts of interesting things, and are considering which way to go next. But the end of the game was interrupted by an odd bit of character. Jeannie's character Flix is a rogue who steals from Elves due to a bit of history of hers. When she met the new character of Nick's, Xen (an elven druid replacing my absent friend JM's character), she took a disliking to him and tried to swipe something of his. She'd rolled really well, so I let her take his 'Bag of Tricks'. I should have given her some gold, in retrospect.

Xen didn't try to use his bag until well into the next day, but when it was missing and he couldn't find it, Nick started coming up with more ways to locate the missing item - which was dangerous, as it involved his pair of advanced badgers. When I explained that the item was missing from the previous day, he pointed out that he would have discovered the theft before he left town and would have found it then. I agreed, and as a compromise to prevent wiping out a day's adventuring, we agreed that he'd located and gotten back the bag, replacing it with a non-magical duplicate.

Well, that blew up in our faces when Flix next saw the merchant who she had sold the bag to. The merchant wanted his money back for the non-magical bag, and Flix thought it was a scam on her. She eventually pulled in a wizard to do Detect Magic to find the bag, and was even more frustred when she couldn't find it. Xen put on that his bag was still missing, and in her persuit of 'justice', Flix eagerly admitted to stealing the bag from Xen so that she could get the halfling merchant in trouble. Eventually things were worked out - Xen planted the bag in Flix's things, everyone calmed down, and Xen even asked the court for clemancy so that Flix would get out of jail in only three or so days - which was coincedentally enough time for the party wizard to transcribe Mirror Image into his spellbook.

Next session, I think I'm going to try to control these little off-adventure offshoots. It's part of the charm of playing a home game that you can go off in any direction you wish, but this group was put together to game through the 'Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil' adventure, so there's some pressure to stay on-topic. Otherwise, I might give into my temptation to do wierd things.

Sunday morning dawned late after being up so late with the game, so Tammy and I elected to skip excersize and head straight to brunch. Last week we discovered that our friend [livejournal.com profile] mishalak has a group of friends who get together for Sunday brunch at Goodfriends on east Colfax, and we had a good time there. So we showed up again, discovering that a mutual friend named Rose had also showed up. Unfortunately, last week no reservations were made for this week, so it wasn't until after an hour's wait that our group of 12-14 people got to sit.

But that's okay. The company was good, and the food - when it arrived - was fantastic. I thought I had been splurging when I ordered the belgian waffle with fruit sauce and whipped cream, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the whipped cream hadn't been sweetened, and that the fruit sauce was no sweeter than the blueberries in it as well. I happily chowed it all down, and now Tammy wants to try that next time.

On the way home we stopped by 'All in a Dream' Comics and Science Fiction at 3801 E Colfax, and that's a fantastic place if you like your comics. TONS of collected comics, from the huge section of manga, to the home-grown items, through a selection of comic art books, new issues, and a surprisingly large and well-stocked adult section. Tammy grabbed up vols 2 and 3 of the collected Omaha the Cat Dancer, which she loves, and I grabbed up both volumes of Ironwood. With those, and a few other items we grabbed, we were quite happy and headed home, with a brief stop for laundry detergent.

The rest of the day was low key. I tried to mow the lawn, but the mower ran out of charge and I had to hook it up to recharge - hopefully I'll finish it today. My online Buffy the Vampire Slayer game went swimmingly - my character's gf had been struck while restrained by one of the bad guys, and so I took happy advantage of the Rightous Fury rules, spending two drama points to gain a +5 bonus to everything I do this scene. This has proven to be enough of a bonus, along with some very strong dice rolling, to make Greg (my char) look *very* cool, which is difficult against a background of psychics, demons, and slayers. It's a complicated combat scene with a lot of participants, so we didn't finish this week, but I look forward to the conclusion in two weeks.

Hopefully I'll find some time to post between now and Nan Desu Kan - there's a list of Manga reviews I've been meaning to do. But if not, I'm sure I'll have another massive update after the con.

Oh, and I'm a paid contributor now - I needed to to get a code so we can create a Livejournal for the ToEE campaign, which is beginning to run into problems with player memories - when a clue was given to you two months ago, is it really your fault if you don't remember it? So the journal will be the memoirs of our Elven Wizard, with the comments represnting the other characters leaving notes in the margins to his memoirs. :)

Manga reviews, manga reviews!

Every D&D game I've ever played, there has been a thief character who steals from the group. And it always, always sucks. I am very much a person who enjoys side stuff, but dude! Think a leetle bit of game flow, thief people, please! >.

Well, I'll get the manga reviews done tomorrow, if I do them at all before the anime con this weekend. :)
