Greetings to all from the warm and sunny state of North Carolina!

My wife Tammy is from down here. We were originally planning to only visit my family in Maryland this vacation, but Tammy started pining for her family. Since I could see she really wanted to see them again for Christmas, I agreed that we'd spend the first half of our vacation down here. Since we'd already bought plane tickets to Washington DC, that meant driving seven or so hours south on I-95 (and east on Rt 70) to New Bern, NC.

(It's not terribly famous for anything much other than being the birthplace of Pepsi. It's also the original capitol of the 'state', back when it was a good idea to put the Capitol in a port so you could get orders from England faster.)

But it's also a nice warm place today, which was nice. Tammy's parents decided to have Christmas early, so we did the whole Christmas thing today, getting up early, heading over to her brother Tony's new house, and playing with the 2.5-year old boy Logan. He's a handful.

But it was very nice. I gave my wife her new very nice sapphire bracelet. She knew it was coming - I wasn't willing to lay down that much ca$h without knowing it fit her, return policy or no. But she still thinks I'm pretty wonderful, which is just something I'm going to have to get used to. :)

But she liked the movie I gave her (Spirit), the other bracelet I gave her (Silvery, with teeny little sapphires), and the book (Short and Long Tails, Braun). I've saved off some presents for second Christmas, on the 25th, in Maryland.

It's a lot of fun splitting Christmas up over a couple of days. I'm glad we've done it.

Merry Christmas to you guys. Be good.
