This is a blog post copied from John's Website - please feel free to join him there and post comments. He has set up openid, so you can post there with your livejournal account using your openid, which is the same as your journal url minus the http://. You can find this entry at http://www.jcfiala.net/blog/2012/12/17/so-i-can-find-later-six-harsh-truths-will-make-you-better-person.

I just read this, and I wish I could go back in time and shove it in my younger face: http://www.cracked.com/blog/6-harsh-truths-that-will-make-you-better-per.... I just read through it and really enjoyed it.

You don't have to like it, I just wanted to save the link.

Ha.

The point of the article is really that it would do you NO GOOD to shove it in your younger self's face. As he points out, we have great defense mechanisms to prevent that from working. I know it sure wouldn't have worked on ME back then.

Heck, it doesn't really work on me NOW.

No, I don't think that's the point at all. Sure, it might do no good - I'm quite willing to admit that I've had trouble with using defense mechanisms to prevent me from doing things that will do me good. The point is that this is how the world works, and the faster you realize and react to it, the better things will (probably) go for you.

I might not do anything if I saw this 23 years ago, but it would at least introduce concepts to me that, later on, I could finally realize. Happily a lot of this has already worked it's way into me - I've got a great job, I've got a lovely wife, a fantastic kid, and life's pretty wonderful. I've also been lucky, but there's a certain amount of being willing to see a lucky thing and grab it. :)

Yeah I liked the article too. Its main point of being a doer is great. I want to send it to peeps but I am afraid it will offend!
