Getting Buffed
Jan. 16th, 2003 06:20 pmThose of you who've been reading this for a bit know that my wife and I have joined Weight Watchers and have been doing well so far in shedding a few of the many pounds we need to lose. So far we've done fairly well with just changing our food intake.
However, another part of a good weight loss program is excersize. The WW program is pretty smart about introducing things slowly, and so it was only last week that they started seriously suggesting that we get off of our duffs and get moving. (Part of the way they do this is a program that allows you to eat more food if you excersize more. These WW people know where the carrot is.)
However, it's cold outside, and most free forms of excersize are therefore really unappetizing. I noticed in the paper an ad for the Colorado Athletic Club - they're giving out free two week memberships for people to try out. It's a good idea - this is the time of the year for New Years Resolutions, and although ours isn't a Resolution, we're willing to take advantage of it. (We started before Christmas.)
So we went down there last night. First we parked by the Denver Athletic Club, and discovered we were at the wrong place. However, the Colorado Athletic Club (CAC) was only three blocks away and I'd already used three quarters to buy a half hour of parking time, so we walked to the correct place.
It's a nice-looking place. It takes up about four floors of an office building just off of the 16th street mall. They've got just about everything I think of for excersize, except for a swimming pool and tennis courts, and for those they've got a deal with a nearby hotel to allow the members to use its. The prices don't seem too high for what we're getting, and spending the money will make me want to use the facilities.
So, we plunked down a bunch of money, as they had a new members special as well, and now we're members. We're planning to go in and start on Satuday morning. Hopefully between this and our weight loss plans, we're going to really change our lives for the better. Because it's just a point in my life where things have to change - and this really is the best change for us.
(Unfortunately neither of us smokes or drinks, so we weren't able to 'warm up' to this by quitting either of those. :)
Have a nice day!
