After a bit of twisting and forcing, I've got the new http://www.dasfa.com/ up and running under Drupal, a feat which makes me feel rather happy. DASFA stands for the 'Denver Area Science Fiction Association', and I've been slowly taking over the webmaster duties for a while now.

I still need to get dasfa.org migrated as well, but there's some email forwarding accounts that I need to get sorted out first. But it shouldn't take too long.

Also, I've set up a new twitter account: http://www.twitter.com/denver_sf to keep track of local Denver SF happenings.

I'm having some fun setting up a Drupal 5 install just so I can test that a patch fixes a problem with upgrading to 6 while using the link module.

Yesterday was saddened by the loss of Gary Gygax. He helped to change the world while having fun, which is something we can all hope to do, I expect.

The drupal convention was good. I learned a bit more about this or that - unlike the Monday schedule, Tuesday was packed with various panels I wanted to sit in on, especially the one where we got to 'brag' on how well we did with the Popular Science website. ^_^ I didn't have to sit up front, but I did get to insert my comments from time to time as items came up for me to clarify. Very satisfying, that.

That evening I got a call from Eredien - sorry, I'm no good at using the livejournal tagging thingy, but she's on livejournal. She was interested in meeting up with me while I was in town, so we worked out a metro stop I could head to and meet her at. We met up, had sushi with her lovely fiance, and had a good time chatting about this and that and the other geeky subjects. It was rainy, but happily I had thought to pack a tiny umbrella in Denver, and it fit nicely inside of the giveaway bag that they'd given to the registrees.

After that I made my way home on the metro, and enjoyed a little WoW with my wife. Yay!

This morning's gone well - an inspiring talk on doing unit and functional tests in Drupal, followed up with a bit of info from a dude from MySQL, and a very satisfying hamburger shared over discussion of database migration problems. Right now I'm on the show floor of our 'big sister' convention, the AIIM International Exposition & Conference, using one of their internet cafe computers. The wireless is very spotty and unreliable with so many rabid geeks wandering the halls with laptops, so this is the best way for me to keep in touch with everyone.

So, the first day of the convention went... well enough. Morning was a fairly orderly series of folks getting up, having coffee and showers, and getting ready to take off for the day. Kevin, who knows the city from having lived here before, lead us out and into the bowels of the transport system, working our way from bus to train to underground bus until we arrived at the absolutely huge Boston Convention Center... which we're only using about three rooms of, apparently. We are a tiny convention.

And we're a hungry one, arriving and discovering that there's no breakfast spread as we'd hoped. I hunted around and found a Dunken Donuts concession, snaring a donut and happily enjoying it's raspberry goodness. Mmmm... After that, it was a session and the keynote speach about Drupal, followed by the food lines.

And lines they were. I spent near 20 minutes inching forward in line until I finally was able to snag a sandwich and sit down for a bit for lunch. mmmm.

After that it was sessions. I skipped a few of them to try and work on some projects, but unfortunately the internet at the center is a little weak, or at least it's a little weak when 800 computer geeks show up and try to all use the internet at once. Ooops. I also discovered that I've got some weird problem with php and drupal on this computer, and I haven't figured it out yet. Frustrating!

At the end of the day there was a job fair/technical fair, where I drifted around and talked to various people about me and work. Interesting, some of the folks using Drupal - the people who did Rock Band were there, and they're looking for drupal for their website, apparently.

That done, I escaped back to the apartment where I'm staying for some soda and some UTZ. I may head out again in the future to join some of the after work shmoozing, but I'm an astonishingly weak guy at schmoozing, so my impulse is to stay here. We'll see!

But my feet hurt.
