The Second Life of Dr. Mirage
Oct. 12th, 2005 08:36 amOne of my favorite comic book series only lasted about 18 issues back in the 1990's, and it was from Valient, a company that went from reprints of some old Gold Key characters (Magnus, Robot Fighter) and built themselves up fairly large until they crashed when the collector's market died in the late 90's. It was a story about a happily married couple, who were rich paranormal investigators. He was Chinese, she was Brazillian - and other than the fact that he'd pretty much come back from the dead as a ghost, they had a fairly normal life, and a generally happy marriage, other than the fact that Dr. Mirage couldn't really touch his wife anymore. (A problem that was very realisticly handled, I thought.) It's a superhero comic, but handled similarly to the 'Lois & Clark' tv show - the marriage is just as important as the superheroics.
If you get a chance to read them sometime, look them up. Unfortunately they've never been collected in volumes, but they are fairly easy to find both in back issue bins and on ebay.
