The day after my layoff was a dark and shrouded symphony of angst. As I lay in my bed, immobilized by the tragedy my life had become, it was as if each stuffed animal in the room was singing of my failure in a grand gothic chant of doom.
Well, no.
I *did* take advantage of sleeping in, although that was complicated by Jingoro trying to annoy us out of bed so we'd feed him. Does anyone want a really noisy orange cat? He's got his shots. :)
Finally up, I showered and started going through my clothes. *This* pile fits me, *that* pile is only a size too large (XXL), and these piles are clothes that really don't fit me (XXXL). Now that I've removed all the clothes that don't fit me, I can finally put away my clothes. Yay! We also looked over my clothes. I don't have any suits that fit me, but I have a nice dark blue suit jacket that we took on the clothing trip to compare with pants. (Interestly enough, my suit from HIGH SCHOOl almost fits me - I figure another 2 or 4 inches off of me, and it will. High School! Woot!)
So, we took off with my suit jacket. We stopped at Chili's for some lunch, since we hadn't had any breakfast. Then we wandered down to the barber, getting a snazzy short cut for my hair so I'm more presentable at interviews.
Then we saw that the corner store of the strip mall had finally been filled with a K&G - a low-cost clothes store. Being cheap, we wandered in, and were quite impressed. Dress shirts at $20, dress pants at $30... not bad. I got three nice shirts, two nice slacks that go with my suit jacket, and a new pair of shoes that don't look a year old. Oh, and a tie rack, which I really did need. And all for less than $200! Very very good.
That done, we got some things copied at Kinkos, and discovered that they were understaffed - only one person working the cash register, and the line crawled. But soon enough we were out, and went to check out a Starbucks that had moved into what used to be an indifferent Burger King. It turns out the Starbucks only takes up half of the Burger King, but it was nice. We sat and played a few games of Magic, using some premade 7th edition decks we'd gotten cheap at Valhallas. (I like playing Magic recreationally, but I'm not one for competitive play.) I quite recommend the Peppermint Mocha drink - very tasty.
So, we headed home, stopping to walk around a nice park and get a little excersize... returning home finally.
So, a busy and productive first day unemployed. Next up - working up a resume so I can start to impress employers with what a smart and productive person I am. :)
