One important thing when you're a programmer is keeping an eye out for any opportunities for training. This is something I didn't realize back when I was a younger guy, and it's a shame. Especially free training, which gets you a day out of the office, helps you learn something new, and helps to break up the day to day monotony of life.
Such as today - Instead of being downtown, I'm currently sitting in the Hyatt hotel, DTC, which is next door to the office building where Microsoft has their offices. They're doing a free two-day training session on their new version of Visual Studio. Parking's a little pricy, but altogether it's kinda fun - except for the traffic, which was not at all fun. Ugh Ugh Ugh.
Isn't it nice to change your routine a little, though?
