A good weekend.
Sep. 8th, 2002 09:40 pmHi all. Sorry I haven't been updating much lately. I've just been busy.
My most recent chunk of busy was Tacticon, one of Denver's three yearly gaming conventions. This one is a little small, but I had a lot of fun. On Friday, which I took off from work, I was supposed to run a Living City module, but instead played in the Classic feature 'In Search of Her Soul'. There just weren't enough Living City players, not at nine in the morning during rush hour.
After that I had a Call of Cthulhu game titled 'Senior Project'. Our GM, Chris Weeda, was most excellent, and it was really a great time. That done, Tammy and I headed home. We've learned that we enjoy these weekends a lot more if we give ourselves ample time for relaxation.
Saturday dawned bright and early with me trying out a new living campaign: Living Arcanis, an ongoing campaign set in a darker fantasy world than most. I had a blast, roleplaying a lizardman in the midst of a pleasure-festival. (It's a bit more mature, as well.) I'm all aglow with this new campaign.
That evening I helped out the con Coordinator, Stephanie, and found that my second judging slot I wasn't needed again. So I went off and joined an RPGA Legend of the Five Rings rpg, which was lots of fun as well. I got to play a Crab trying to root out the cause of Crab/Crane conflict, trying to blame the Scorpion all the way. It was a blast.
Sunday came bright and early. Sunday Tammy and I had agreed to spend together, playing Living Greyhawk. She spends most of each convention in the board gaming room, liking to play both German Boardgames and railway games like Eurorails and Iron Dragon. She got second place a number of times, but succeeded in winning Cheops, a historical senario for the wonderful boardgame 'Settlers of Catan'.
But I've gotten her interested in Living Greyhawk, and we went off and played together. Although I had been playing for a while, she was able to take advantage of a series of modules being run by a local GM and managed to advance her main character, a Paladin, to the same level (4th) as my cleric/fighter. (I'd actually had him to fifth, but an unfortunate mistake at GenCon caused him to die. He came back with a Ressurection spell, but one level lower.)
We played two games together, and had a good time. I had enough money to purchase a magical mace for my cleric, and gained enough experience to advance back up to fifth level again. It was a good time.
After that, it was time for the awards. I had done well enough at Living Arcanis to get first place at the table, and got a prize: a copy of the 'Dying Earth' RPG, one I'd been interested in seeing, but hadn't been able to justify buying, as it's not a game I'd likely play.
But for all the fun, it was still tiring. And so, to bed, to sleep, and tomorrow: to work.
