This morning I woke up early enough that Tammy and I had breakfast together. Cereal and milk - all we had time for - but it was a nice change from popping a breakfast scramble into the toaster at work. I fiddled about on my computer (The button men site is still down), and Tammy got the VCR ready to tape Charmed.

(A side thought on Charmed for those of you who may watch it - I think the actress (Shannon Doherty?) leaving at the end of the last season or two ago was good for the show. Originally you had three sisters - Shannon playing the most 'adult/mature' one. The other two gradiated down from that, with the middle sister being mostly together and the youngest one having had a history of being flighty and immature. With Shannon having left, that let the middle one become the mature one, the flighty one to become mostly mature, and now the new one can be flighty and immature, although not in the same way that the previous young sister was. So it allowed for some character growth without upsetting the structure of the family.)

Last night was fun. Last night we went book shopping. Is there anything more fun than that? Browsing through bookstores is one of my favorite things to do, and last night I had a reason to indulge. I was told at work that we were going to be using this new C# language, so I needed a C# book.

First I went to Black and Read. B&R is a great used bookstore and used music store - they used to be fairly cramped stuffed into just one storefront, but a year or two ago the business next door moved out and they were able to expand out there. You can't always find good modern computer books there, but sometimes you're surprised. (My VB.NET book was found there.) No luck there, but that gave me a chance to browse their gaming shelves. B&R has a great new and used roleplaying game section, and I was happy to find a copy of the Spycraft game for only sixteen bucks. (There was a second one for seventeen and a half, but this one was cheaper because it was highlighted.) The original book is usually thirty five, so this is a good bargain.

After that, I picked up Tammy in the Hobby Lobby next door - she's not one for browsing a bookstore for god knows how long, but there's a craft & handiworks store next to the B&R, which means we can both browse happily. She got some stensils.

From there we went to the Media Play to see if they have any C# books. Hmm... It takes some time to find the computer books, and along the way we find the Stargate SG-1 second season that Tammy wants. Christmas is coming, however, so we continue on. There's one C# book, but I'd rather look at a couple. So we decided to take off (after looking over the Playstation 2 games) and get some dinner.

We go to Carabbas Italian Grill, which is near the Media Play. They have this fried Calimari appetizer that's to die for, and then I have the MezzaLuna, which is apparently Italian for delicious little raviolis with chicken, spinich, and cheese inside. Mmm... Tammy has chicken of some sort (Marsala?), but can't finish it. We bring leftovers home.

From there it's a trip up to Flatirons to check out the Borders there. I really like Borders, both the style of the stores, the selection they have, and the coffee area. I'm really looking forward to the mall opening up in two days - there's going to be a Borders there.

Borders does not disappoint - there's a wide selection of C# books, and of the short list I'd cobbled from Amazon they've got most of them. I eventually settled on the C# Programmers Reference by Grant Palmer. From there we then looked over a nifty book on the history of video games (High Score! is the title - looks very cool), and then we browsed the magazines and calendars. First we each picked out a couple of magazines, and then Tammy looked for a calendar featuring Paris. There's a couple ones, but the one she picks out is the one I found, featuring handcolored postcards of Paris from the 1920's.

After paying for our purchases, Tammy draged me out of the store. I'm difficult like that. :)

So, it was a good night. Hope yours was as good.
